Product is a direct replacement for the brake away system currently installed on my trailer. This item was delayed in getting to eTrailer, but the staff were great in keeping me updated on the delivery date.

Still working well. Battery has kept a charge and system has worked as expected.

Very nice unit to replace mine that the Trailers builders "forgot" to fold over the locking tabs on the channel that the unit slides into (after lunch friday oops) lol! and it hopped out when we ran through some most excellent pot-holes at 60 MPH on our fine interstate here in Virginia and it hopped out & hit the asphalt as it was still dangling by the wires. I found this at the first rest stop we hit and luckily i had a giant Tie rap to save the day and continue the journey. the wires were still in tact but the battery was long gone. Anyhow your replacement was exact, wires had a nice head-start splice on them and i am back in business. To sum it up i highly recommend y'all!!!

by:

Looks like a nice unit and definitely an improvement over my 1984 Teshonka unit that does not have a charger. Haven't installed it yet, still working on other brake parts but will add the review when in operation. Shipping was fast and price reasonable - thanks!

So far Ive made 2 round trips with my rebuilt trailer and the Bright Way Breakaway Kit is doing great. Ive never had the trailer become separated from my E450, but Im sure the Kit would operate as it should. I installed it inside the triangular area of the trailer tongue, next to the wiring harness junction box and am very pleased by the quality. The battery gets charged as needed through the hot wire of the Fords harness. Very nice product and highly recommended! Just dont know how to add a photo....

by:

Works as designed. Delivered with the expected excellent results from etrailer.

by:

Just installed the trailer brake emergency battery and break-away switch. Straightforward and simple. Brake electrical system working properly. Simple install, but understand the battery box has to be mounted to something upright with wire clearance underneath. I made a couple of simple L brackets from aluminum stock leaving about 1/2" of clearance.

One Year later and had no issues with the product. The battery is still holding strong. Highly recommend!!

by:

Nice upgrade from my stock 2014 breakaway kit that didn't have any of the status lights. Delivery was quick and everything worked good.

by:

Purchased as part of all parts required to upgrade a 1996 Jayco to electric brakes. Very pleased with quality of parts and results. Battery still fully charged after winter in storage!

by:

Easy to install has performed well.

by:

The products seem to take a long time to get to me

by:

You folks are very polite and well informed. Great customer srvice!

by:

Worked great just as promised.

by:

Product works as described. etrailer has been excellent to work with.

by:

These units do not do well in the sun, they should be covered. The push button cracked within 6 months and was completely gone shortly after. The unit works good, but in terms of longevity I think the electronics will succumb to the elements due to the button cracking and allowing rain inside the circuit board.

by:

I have found etrailer to be great to work with. Prompt shipment. The Bright Way Breakaway kit was very easy to install. I do like the wiring diagram on the front of the unit.

by:

Best option all in one

by:

Works great.

by:

Easy to install and quite complete.

by:

Works great, I've installed this on my larger gooseneck first and liked it so much I purchased another one for my smaller stock trailer. A lot better than standard break away batteries with aftermarket in line chargers. The installation is a breeze and finished results are very clean. Definitely will be installing on any other trailers I purchase in the future.

by:

Thankfully, to date I have not had to “test” my break-away brake system in an on-road situation. However, periodical stationary tests prove the system works as expected. One area of improvement would be in the fasteners used to secure the battery cover. They rusted within a month. 304 stainless steel fasteners would be a recommended low cost upgrade.

by:

Mounts easily and works like it should, self charging is convenient.

Charger is still working and battery is in working order so you can test your brake system by pulling the pin. whats not to like!

by:

Was easy to install when I bought it and has worked flawlessly

  • Is The 12 Volt Supply Line Required When Installing The Wiring Kit For a Trailer Brake Controller?
The Wiring Kit # 5506 includes running a 12 volt power supply as this is needed to charge the battery on the Breakaway Kit # 3802346. Trailers with electric trailer brakes are required to have a functioning breakaway kit to stop the trailer shall it become disconnected from the tow vehicle. The 12-volt wire can also be used to power auxiliary lights or other 12 volt accessories in the trailer.

  • Parts Needed For Installing Trailer Brakes On a Yacht Club Single 3,500LB Axle Pontoon Boat Trailer
The best option would be to go with Disc Brakes # DE66YR. These are the best option as they repel water better than other trailer brakes and will offer superior braking. This will require the Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T47457107K and Brake Line Kit # HS496-251. The brake actuator uses a electric lockout so you will need a 5-way for your tow vehicle. If you have a 7-way then you will need an Adapter # A75TB or a Kit # C57187 can be used to change a 4-way to a 5-way. You could also go...

  • Troubleshooting Door of Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit Not Able to Fully Open
The front cover of the Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 3802346 is supposed to swing out like you mentioned. I attached pictures that show the door open. I'd be willing to bet the hinge on the left side of the door isn't fully seated which is causing the issue. Check to see if you can pop the hinge back onto the posts of the section of the hinge that is attached to the housing. I also attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.

  • Parts Needed to Add Trailer Brakes to Sure-Trac Enclosed Trailer with 3,500 lb Axle
According to my research your Sure-Trac STW7212SA enclosed trailer has a 3,500 lb axle with a 4" drop. To add brakes to this axle you'll need to make sure that you have a brake mounting flange on your axle - the brake mounting flange will look like part # 4-35 and will be welded on right behind the spindle. If this is the case then I have everything you'll need to accomplish this listed below: Over-Under Conversion Kit - # K71-384-00 Electric Trailer Brake Kit - # AKEBRK-35-SA (1 set per...

  • Parts Needed to Add Electric Brakes to a Trailer with Hydraulic Brakes
To change from hydraulic to electric brakes you will need to swap out both the brakes themselves as well as the rotors for hub/drums. When it comes to the electrical side of things you'll need the wiring as well as a breakaway battery kit which will apply the trailer brakes in an emergency situation. If you're needing a kit rated for 3,500 lbs then I recommend the following parts: Self-Adjusting Brake Kit - # AKEBRK-35-SA Hub and Drum Assembly - # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K (5 on 4-1/2"bolt pattern) 10...

There are some other parts you need if you're upgrading your trailer to have electric brakes: - 10 Gauge Wiring # 10-1-1 (enough to reach from your trailer connector to 1 brake and then along the axle to the other brake) - Butt Connectors # DW05745-10 - Junction Box Kit # 3430001-JBK - 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector...

The 7th circuit that is omitted on the wiring diagram of the Brightway Breakaway Kit part # 3802346 is an aux circuit that is most commonly a reverse light circuit if it's used at all. The rest of the colors are standard function but if your colors are different you would need to wire by function instead. I took a look at the specs of your 1998 Jayco Eagle 12UDST, and it looks like this is a single axle trailer with a 2,000 lb axle. That means you likely have a 7" hub and drum like the Dexter Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-257-5UC3-EZ, though you will want to confirm that by measuring the inside diameter of the hub.
